Code/Category is simply a way to group time entries into logical work groups.  Some companies may have short codes set up for each work unit performed by a worker each day.  Others may prefer to use short descriptions.  Some examples might be: Phone for time spent on the telephone. Claims might be used by an insurance or health claims processor to show actual time spent processing claims. Break or Lunch might be categories used where appropriate.  These codes may be set up specifically for the work performed for a specific job.

A Code/Category may be entered directly on the Time Entry Window and it will be saved to the Category file.  They may also be entered by  entering the Action Menu and clicking on Category.

On the Browse Category Window, press the New button to enter a new category.  Press the Change button to edit the highlighted category, or press the Delete button to delete the highlighted category.  When the Category Form appears, simply enter the new category or make the needed changes and press the Save button.  You may cancel any changes made by pressing the Cancel button before saving.

Checking the Non Project Category check box will mark this category to be ignored in the context of projects.  This might be used, for example, if breaks and/or lunch categories are used.  Obviously, these categories should not be counted as time spent on a project.  Another possible way to show these types of time would be to create a project called Lunch, for instance, and select that project with amount per hour set to zero.
